    • Love this hotel

      Reviewed 27 August 2019

Really enjoyed my time at this hotel, glad all the staff spoke English, breakfast buffet offers wide variety only thing missing was fried sausage for the English breakfast, rooms were really clean and cleaners did a great job keeping the hotel clean every day, staff are really friendly, cocktails needed to be better, and I feel they need a wider variety of ice cream to stock up on. Love that Lidil i is a 2min drive from the hotel, and best chicken place to eat is Marufos which is next to Lidil.

The Aquashow Hotel has the potential to be a very very good hotel for families, but it falls a little bit short at the moment. The hotel appears to be quite new, and perhaps with a management team more familiar with business hotels. This is not a bad thing, the hotel is fantastically clean, the rooms are spacious and the staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is quite far away from the nearest town, so a hire car is really essential. The hotel management appear aware of this limitation and there is no charge for parking which more or less mitigates the location issue. Guest shuttle busses would be a welcome improvement as the waterpark busses are not really suitable for this. Its also nice that the hotel is not exploiting a captive audience and has reasonable food and drink prices for those that cannot travel. Breakfast buffet is nice with fresh food being supplied right until the end of breakfast - no stale pastries at 10:30! Evening meals are a bit average and the menu lacks choice. Its not bad, but could be a lot better - its essentially a derivative of their waterpark snack menu. The pools are where the hotel has its biggest strength and also its biggest issue for families. The indoor and outdoor pools are nice, very clean water and a reasonable temperature in late August. However, the single worst fact about the hotel is its totally impossible to enjoy time spent around the pool without someone smoking or vaping nearby. This is a family hotel, there are kids running around with bare feet and inconsiderate guests throwing cigarette ends onto the pool patio is totally unacceptable. This issue continues through (indoor) dinner with my ice cream enjoyment being ruined by some other inconsiderate person and their nicotine addiction. For a family hotel this is totally unacceptable. Separate smoking areas are a must, and nowhere near the restaurant tables. Likewise listening to a fellow guest loudly complain about f****** Arsenal within earshot of my 7 year old somewhat takes the shine of ones enjoyment. The little things: The gym is adequate and has no extra fee. The rooms could do with slightly more storage space. There are fridges in the rooms, but these switch off with all the other electrics when the plastic room keycard is taken out (obviously the fridge should run all the time). Not an issue unless medication or similar is being kept in the fridge. The evening entertainment is somewhat random. Some very good, others not so much and times vary quite a bit. The lock on the balcony door is easily within a childs reach, there should be second lock out of reach. Please, please have the safety chat with your kids. Would I stay here again? Maybe. The hotel seems to be really trying and its a good starting point, but they really need to properly focus on being family friendly, and not just a business hotel with a pool slide. I feel a lifeguard on duty at the pool would be a real improvement and may deter some of the more antisocial behaviour. A kids entertainment or animation team would be a real step in the right direction.

    • 3/5 Hotel 4/5 Park

      Reviewed 22 August 2019

I've written this as a joint hotel/waterpark review as for us the two went hand in hand. We stayed here for 2 nights half board as a family of 3 - two adults and an 11 year old, in peak season. The only reason we booked the hotel was for the waterpark and based on that it does the job, as we were hardly in the room except to sleep. I'll talk about the waterpark later but firstly the hotel. It's not far from Faro Airport. We had a hire car so weren't concerned about the 20 minute drive. The hotel is fine if you're here mainly to use the waterpark, but it's not quite a four star. We arrived early in the morning and a 4pm check in means a 4pm check in..which was fine as we were able to use the toilet/shower facilities next to the indoor pool to change. We were told about lockers and if needed them to the reception would look after our case. We paid 10euros each per towel, which was returned when we checked out. Once we changed we were able to use the waterpark straight away, which meant we didn't waste the day. At no point did the hotel feel really busy or 'to capacity' which we felt was strange for peak season. With regards the room -There were a few things in the room that appeared broken and we couldn't even get the balcony door open so had to call reception to get the problem resolved, which took an age. Also another reviewer mentioned the state of the fridge, which I agree, was dirty and looked as though it hadn't been cleaned. To be honest it's strange there's a fridge in the room at all as there are no tea/coffee making facilities, no mini bar and signs up around the hotel stating that you must not bring your own food and drink into the building. We did bring our own water and snacks, which we brought at a nearby Lidl. The bathroom was basic and looked like it could do with a refresh. In terms of toiletries there is a dispenser offering a showergel/ shampoo combo and a packet of soap. All very basic and not what you'd expect from a four star. If I'm being super fussy the towels were rather small. There is a hairdryer. The car park was free, which was a bonus and the wifi worked well. There was a tv in the room but we didn't watch it. Food.... Half board in this hotel means no drinks with dinner, which we've experienced in other hotels so wasn't unexpected. Talking of drinks, they were reasonably priced. A cider is 3.50 euro. A large beer and a Fanta was 5 euros. The restaurant staff were really friendly. With regards the food, there just isn't much choice. Chicken nuggets, chips, pizza, salad, a soup of the day and then 2/3 more offerings. There was a nice spaghetti carbonara, which we all enjoyed and the following night there was a lovely vegetable lasagne, but if you've got intolerances, fussy kids or you love a plentiful buffet, you'll be disappointed. There aren't stations with chefs cooking in front of you and there aren't endless tables of choice. Breakfast was a similar affair, in that there wasn't masses of choice. We did see other diners - who weren't half board - order from the menu and the meals looked big. I agree with other reviewers that the evening entertainment was extremely loud. Our room backed on to the pool and it was booming until 11pm and gone. It's understandable people want to enjoy themselves on holiday but if you're an 'early to bed' family then maybe best to ask for a room facing the waterpark. The hotel in general is very clean. There is a medium sized outdoor pool, a small children's pool, an indoor pool, a gym and a spa. We didn't use any of them as we spent the days getting our monies worth out of the waterpark. The waterpark. To be honest I was dreading the waterpark - as I'm not a thrill-seeker - but we booked it for our daughter as her part of the holiday, as we were off sightseeing in Lisbon after. I was pleasantly surprised! Even though there was a bit of building work going on to create a new indoor park (opening later this year) it didn't cause us any problems. I agree with other reviewers that it's a bit of a trek up the hill to the entrance, which could be eliminated if they put an entrance especially for hotel guests next to the hotel. There were lots of rides, varying in scariness. As I said before I'm not a huge fan of water parks myself, as I'm a bit of a wuss, that said there were a fair few rides even I enjoyed. Yes there are queues - but that's to be expected - and they are managed very well by the staff. There aren't masses of loungers, we just did what everyone else did and laid our towels out on the grass. The waterpark itself is very clean and nicely maintained. With regards food we had fries, two large beers and a Ben & Jerry's ice cream for about 12 euros - which we felt was reasonable. We saw people eating full meals and they looked good value for money. The surrounding area..A few people have said 'there's nothing here'. I'd say that's a little unfair as we went a couple of minutes down the road and saw a number of restaurants all heaving with people. Quarteria is a 10 minute drive away - which was perfect for us as we had a car and Vilamoura a few minutes beyond that. Quarteria is a fishing village with lots of restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and a huge sandy beach. We really enjoyed it for an evening stroll. Vilamoura was even better, great beach, huge marina and loads of bars, restaurants, ice cream shops and gift shops. Overall I totally agree with other reviewers who say there are opportunities being missed. Why else would you stay in the hotel if it's not to go to the waterpark and with that in mind there should be a ' magic hour' before 10am like they do at Disney - but I guess with under 200 rooms in the hotel it's not worth their while financially. We felt offering a gym and a spa helps the hotel in gaining 4 star status but in terms of the basics - like food and rooms - it comes in slightly under that. But hey if you've got youngsters and your primary focus is the waterpark then it's probably the best place to stay as you don't waste time. I think when the new area of the waterpark opens the hotel will be busier. As I said at the beginning..if we were going to stay in this hotel with no waterpark then we all agreed it's a 3/5 but with the waterpark next door included in the price we paid it would be a 4/5.

    • Great Hotel

Great Hotel but a bit iscolated from the shops and beach. We spent most days having to book taxis to go anywhere. If we went again would definatly hire a car. Staff were very helpful and friendly. But they are not kidding when they say check in is not until 4pm. We had an early flight and arrived at hotel at 10am but could not go to our room until 4. stunning view of the water park from my balcony. Room clean and tidy.

Tips Download uber ..taxis good value and quick Lidel is 4 min drive away ..stock up beer /crisps etc Rooms have fridge ...keep door key in the room system to keep fridge on Zoomarine great day out book at reception..8.30 bus pick up outside the hotel Quinteria.. beautiful town 10 min away ..get dropped at sea front loads of bars/restaurants..loved it ... aslo taxi to Vilamora sea front Aquashow Park If your kids below 1mitre give it a miss ..not much for them The park itself is great BUT few things really made me angry 1 Hotel guests get a seperate entrance at Entrance 2 ...but its pathetic... everyone without a wristband cues here; skips the que and its not an exclusive entrance afterall The hotel needs to understand the waterpark is a selling point of the holiday and here are twon things they should implement immediately 1. Entrance of the park... hotel guests should get access to the park BESIDE the hotel. A gate could be installed at the Snake slide you see from the hotel. 2. Hotel guests should be allowed in at 9am BEFORE everyone else. Disney land do this for any guests staying in Disney hotels ... easy to let hotel guests in early ..very easy
