    • No service, terrible location

      1.0

If you are looking for a hotel with no service, this is the place to be. Incredible how a potentially beautiful building can be turned in such a bad hotel. No effort whatsoever to make your stay enjoyable. The staff does not care at all (and does not speak any English at all). The rooms are average; maybe once they were nice but now the rugs are old and dirty and the sofa stained. The way they advertise themselves on the site is totally unrealistic. How they can call themselves 5* (at 5* prices; what a rip off!!!) is a total mystery. Its location is terrible as well. Inside a hutong (which can be nice but this one is not) in a totally uninteresting part of Beijing. Taxis will not go there (and do not expect the staff to arrange one for you) and can hardly be found in the neighborhood. Very disappointing experience.

    • Hotel Was Great

The hotel may not be the easiest to find, but once you do it's fantastic. The service was also fantastic. If you want to stay in a large name brand hotel this is not for you. English was somewhat limited, but not a problem for us. If you want to stay in a very nice Chinese run local hotel in the middle of the Hutong district this is for you. This was our first trip to China, and it was great, and this hotel and staff were wonderful. We will stay here again on our next visit.

Why stay in a generic hotel when you can live like a Qing Dynasty aristocrat? This beautifully preserved series of courtyard homes in the historic Hutong is fantastic. Stunning woodwork, screens and ancient trees, paired with antiques and artwork throughout. The rooms are modern, the Western and Asian breakfasts sumptuous and my only regret was not setting up a chef-catered dinner in one of the spectacular dining rooms. I will definitely stay here again.

    • Life in the Hutong

If you are looking to have a close look at life in the hutong , then this hotel will appeal to you. It is a lovely restored hutong, consisting of a series of quiet & peaceful courtyards with rooms off these. You can choose a traditional room or a modern room. Outside the front door is everyday life in this area but be warned this is not a pristine laneway! The subway is 10-12 minutes walk from the hotel( Line5). Our room was a modern, large room with all the luxuries you expect. The bed was very hard which some people may not like. However the room was not very clean with dust on the floors. Also another annoying problem was that it had a power saving device on the power which meant all the power points switched off overnight meaning your camera etc did not charge. The TV, which had Chinese stations & randomly a Spanish station, came on every time the power came back on. Wifi signal was variable. The staff were friendly & keen to help. They loved to practise their language skills, google translate was very useful!
