I visited Diaos cove with my husband and 3 y.o daughter for 9 nights. This was our second time in crete so we were comparing this resort to Domes of Elounda (which we visited last year and stared as 5/5 and was perfection!) We booked a sea view room with private pool and were allocated a lovely room that was exactly what we expected. We had requested a room that got the afternoon sun and this is what we got. I would advise others considering this hotel thoug that the terraces on this room type do not get the sun due to an oversized roof area. There are also no sun loungers, just a chair and table and small sofa. We regretted paying extra for this room option. The room however was spacious and clean. Unfortunately, we had been given a travel cot rather than a proper bed for our daughter this was rectified on day 2 without any fuss (we arrived at midnight on day 1 and just wanted to get to bed). The bed was extremely hard and I slept badly on the first night, I wouldnt usually mention this however I am glad I did as they said the mattresses could be flipped and there was a soft side, this made me sleep well for the rest of the holiday. The hotel is very clean and modern but very big and there is lots of unused space which makes it seem a bit too big. The golf carts we found useful as the funniculars got extremely hot In the sun and involved more walking, generally we waited a maximum of 5 mins for one so no issues. We ate every evening at Pangea buffet, the food was lovely and we ate very well! My only criticism would be the kids choices were not what I would have expected, for example plain pasta had to be requested specifically from the chef as they chose potato croquettes as the carb option for kids (every night!). I would have expected a few different options to be rotated rather than the same things every night. We didnt get told we could request specific things we just saw others doing it. There were good vegetarian choices for me every night though and I cant fault the waiting staff who were brilliant and very accommodating. We had also read in other reviews about the wind, I was quite looking forward to this as it was mid August and sure to be hot. However due to the situation of the hotel it gets VERY windy, all doors of the restaurant were closed for 6 of the 8 evenings so you cant dine al fresco as we love to do on holiday. And the wind made the pool extremely cold for children who were often seen shivering. This made the pools quite quiet for some of the days we were there. We had read reviews of people complaining about the prices of drinks, this I have to agree with. Whilst you expect high prices some things made no sense. For example, one evening at the bar we ordered 2 glass of wine (12 euro each) and I requested a very small glass of juice for my daughter, we were charged 8 euro for this! I think Diaos cove need to think about offering some reduced prices of kids drinks as this put us off going to the bar, we just bought some wine for the resort shop and drank in our room for other evenings. We used the creche on some of the days and were really impressed. This is separate to the Scott Dunn kids club which is situated just next door. The staff were all lovely, spoke a variety of languages and did some great activities. They did baking and pizza making, treasure hunts and our daughter loved it. In the evenings they often did activities including face painting which we also enjoyed after dinner. Our main disappointment with Diaos cove came from the housekeeping. We had to request things we expected as standard in a 5 star hotel such as hand soap and face cloths and these then took over 30 mins to arrive as apparently a shortage in the hotel! We had to wait a long time when we requested an ironing board and iron also which is frustrating when you are waiting to go for dinner. We requested on several occasions for the room to be cleaned before 1pm so we could spend the afternoon in our own pool whilst our daughter could nap however almost 50% of the time this did not happen. The same happened with the turn down service as we went to dinner early so our daughter could go to bed at a reasonable time. We attempted to give this feedback to management but the front of house staff were quite frankly rude to us when we asked to do this. We were eventually promised a phone call from a manager (which never happened!) we had to therefore request to meet someone on our last day and were given a deputy manager who clearly didnt understand English very well and I had little faith that this feedback would be passed on and put into practice. I do acknowledge it was a busy time to visit and the hotel was full but I do not feel the service was at the standard of Domes of Elounda and the staff were definitely not as friendly and helpful as we expected (with the exception of Pangea staff). The beach however is nice and the food is good. We feel there are better places than this though and would not revisit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Daios Cove, such a stunning setting and well thought out hotel. After a fairly disastrous stay at another hotel first thank god for this hotel it totally saved our holiday. We stayed with our 2 year old daughter and she loved it from start to finish. The hotel was very child friendly and accommodating for family. The views everywhere were incredible and even though the hotel was set on a steep hillside it was very accessible with very few steps till you get down towards the beach. The private beach was such a lovely setting and we could always get sunbeds. I would definitely return and recommend to friends and family for a truly luxurious relaxing stay.

From the arrival to the departure the whole experience at Daios Cove was terrific. The Junior suite with pool was spacious enough for ourselves and our son. Air con was quiet. All staff, be they gardeners, drivers, beach attendants etc. were always happy and said hello. The various restaurants all offered great quality food. Would love to stay there again and would not hesitate to recommend especially the Resident's Club (all inclusive)

We arrived late, around 11pm, but even so a person from the front desk greeted us from the taxi, took care of our bags, and escorted us to the reception to complete check in and then showed us to our room. The initial views from the lobby are stunning and these continue throughout the hotel; at the restaurants, bars and down at the beach. The staff had saved a selection of sandwiches and desserts for us in the room which was certainly a welcome surprise after a long trip. In terms of amenities this hotel has it all; everything youd expect from a 5* hotel. The beach and the pool are both well staffed, with sun bed attendants to provide fresh towels and bar staff continually circling so you never have to wait long before ordering a drink or food from your sunbed! Even at full capacity, which the hotel was at the end of August, it doesnt feel crowded and theres no scarcity of sunbeds or long waits for food or drink. If youre staying on a half-board basis the buffet style food is delicious, with a huge selection to cater to every taste; the desserts in particular look amazing and taste even better. Special thanks to Anna, one of the hotel managers, for being so accommodating and for offering extra help for my girlfriends dietary requirements (gluten-free). And Vladimir down at the beach for always being very friendly and eager to help. Were thoroughly enjoying our stay and glad weve still got a few days left in paradise.

We stayed at The Cove for a week at the end of August and absolutely loved it. The setting is picture perfect, secluded in the private cove - the rooms blend in to the scenery and the views are amazing. We loved sitting out on the bean bags at the beach during the day - we visited during school holidays and did notice that the swimming pool was quite busy with children - we assume it would be much quieter during term time. It would be a lovely place to bring children away but equally we have enjoyed a relaxing couples break. The food at the Beach House was delicious - we loved the beef skewers and we also decided to eat at the Beach House on one evening (we were staying on a half board basis) and we had the outside skirt steak which was great, followed by the chocolate pie (big enough for two!) The puddings in Pangea are some of the best we have had in a buffet style restaurant - especially if you are chocolate lovers! The staff are all kind and friendly and are willing to help always. All in all we loved our stay and wouldnt hesitate to recommend - Im sure we will be back!
