    • A return visit

My first trip to the Marriott Canary Wharf, was back in February. I was looking for a hotel for my family, to stay during their visit to the UK in June. For their visit, I wanted to stay in Marriott Canary Wharf, my families chose the Moxy because of the numbers and overall cost. For my trip with my partner, I chose to stay at the Canary Wharf Marriott, and it did not disappoint. We arrived at the Marriott quite late in the day from the train ride from beautiful North Yorkshire. Once again, we were given a fantastic suite with great views of the wharf. The staff on the desk and the lounge were just as wonderful and helpful as they were during the last visit. I like the Canary Wharf area because it is the financial district and it becomes quite quiet on the weekend. It's lovely to be in the city and not feel crowded; it is as if you have the entire place to yourself. I really prefer staying at Canary Wharf because it puts me in a fantastic location, but away from the tourists and the crowds of London. Also, you have the DLR and tube for travel to anywhere you may want to visit in the city.

As can be seen from my profile, we regularly stay at Marriott Canary Wharf, which is our hotel of choice n London, and has been for many years. Why? Because we are always treated as individuals. We are always looked after extremely well. Although we have seen changes of key staff over the years, the current staff always make us feel special. We particularly love the Executive Lounge (special mention of Ramune and Hamid); the excellent breakfast in the restaurant; very acceptable light meals in the G&T Bar; the always helpful concierge staff (special mention James); and of course, the Senior Guest Services Manager, Fanny, who cannot be praised highly enough. We will be back again next year, having already booked.

We chose this hotel because we were attending an event at the O2 arena. On the map, it looked close enough to walk, but in reality, because of the various canals and tunnels, walking there wasn't an option. The Marriott hotel itself was OK. We reserved 2 executive suites ( and only 1 per floor), and since we knew we were going to be arriving at noon, we informed the hotel to this fact and requested check-in as early as possible. One of the suites was ready after 3pm but the other wasn't ready until after 8pm ! And even though they knew how many people were travelling, they didn't make up the pull out sofas. This took 2 calls to housekeeping to get resolved. The suites themselves were a good size, very comfortable king bed, luxuriously large bath towels, and all the usual amenities including a Nespresso coffee machine. The view was not very pleasant, though. You can see the cityscape in the distance, but the immediate view is air conditioner fans and the tracks for the Tube. The executive lounge has drinks 24 hours a day and food/snacks during normal operating hours. It gets quite busy in the evenings when hot foods are served. And since it is on the smallish side, seating can be a challenge. The morning all-you-can-eat breakfast on the ground floor restaurant is average. The redeeming points are the cooked-to-order omelettes and the fresh baked cookies (these get snapped up quickly!). And depending on the time you arrive, there can be a queue for a table. Bottom line for us is if you don't absolutely need to be in the Canary Wharf area, there are better hotels elsewhere.

The Marriott at Canary Wharf is a wonderful choice for a short stay in London. All the luxury amenities and right on the DLR, you will feel well looked after and well connected. The afternoon tea in the G&T Bar is very good. Bottomless bubbles, sandwiches, scones and cakes make it a wonderful experience! Antonio our waiter looked after us, our glasses never stayed empty for long! Perfect.
