    Grand Hotel Miramare overlooks the Gulf of Tigullio at Santa Margherita Ligure. You will find a sun terrace and a salt water swimming pool in the tropical garden.     • A lovely hotel but expensive

      Arrival 4/5. We took the train from Genoa Brignole Central station to Santa Margarita/Portofino station. The trains are very frequent and it took approx 30 mins. Take the La Spezia signed train. Cost 3:60 one way. It was Saturday and busy, but there were still plenty of seats and good luggage space. We phoned the hotel on arrival at Santa Margarita station and they sent a car to collect us (15). Too far to walk with luggage. Check in was swift and efficient. We arrived at 11:45 and as we were early, we had to wait for our room for a short time. Hardly a chore as we enjoyed the fab views and cool breeze on the terrace. Room 4/5. We had booked a sea facing room with balcony and were given room 312 on the third floor. A reasonable size room with an enormous double bed. Quality linen - we slept well. Plenty of storage space, free mini bar (soft drinks and waters) and safe. No iron/board or kettle for tea/coffee. Lovely wooden floor. Immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. The highlight for us was sitting on the balcony in the evening watching the world go by. Bathroom 4/5. A good size and very neat apart from the poor quality grouting around the sink. Bath with integral shower. Lots of nice towels and quality Trussardi toiletries. Breakfast 4/5. A reasonable selection of everything you need and very attentive staff. The terrace location is lovely. We did not have dinner here, but the terrace restaurant looked gorgeous at night. We ate in Santa Margarita one night and in Portofino one night. Plenty of restaurants in S. Margarita. You definately need to book any restaurant in Portofino for peak season. Pool 4/5. Fine service from the pool staff. If you try to do anything, they rush to you to do it for you. Nice friendly staff too. Very comfy loungers. You can have a poolside spot or a sea view. The pool water was a lovely temperature and immaculately clean, but the water really made my eyes sting and I didn't go in a second time - a shame as I always enjoy a swim. Location 5/5. Only a short walk into town for restaurants etc. The bus to Portofino stops outside the hotel. 4 per person each way. We walked part of the way, then hopped on the bus. We got a boat back. All easy to do. Value 3/5. At over 500 per night, you are paying for exclusivity, location and high standards and that is what you get. Overall 4/5. We enjoyed our time here and the staff were excellent throughout, but it does hurt the pocket.

      This hotel is so beautiful. The rooms are elegant yet the bathrooms are modern. The staff aims to please and the breakfasts are tasty and there are many items to choose from. The hotel faces the water and is steps away from shops and cafes.

    • Tired and overpriced

      We stayed here as a couple for 3 nights in August 2019 with our 4 month old daughter. The pros: 1. The hotel has a nice pool area which is private from the road and has a lovely view of the bay. 2. The clientele is refined (mainly wealthier Americans and Australians) and there were no noisy or badly behaved children or adults. 3. The pool staff were friendly and helpful. The cons: 1. Our room (a superior double with balcony) was tired. It had been redecorated fairly recently but the mattress and the furniture were old. The owners will call them rustic, but I felt that, for the price charged (EUR 420/night) they need to spend some money on updating the rooms. 2. The service was mixed. As noted above, the pool staff were friendly and helpful. The reception staff were so-so. For example, I was not asked at the end of our stay whether I had enjoyed it. They just said here is your bill before charging me almost EUR1500 for 3 nights B&B and parking. On our last day, we phoned the concierge at 11:30am and asked if they could send someone up for our bags in time for the 12-noon check out time. The concierge didnt arrive but the Head of Housekeeping nonetheless knocked on our door at 12:03 asking when we were going to vacate the room. 3. The breakfast was pretty basic. Only continental breakfast was included in the room rate and if you wanted anything like eggs or other hot items, you had to pay extra (and quite a bit extra - eg. EUR10 for 2 eggs). In short, this hotel was probably very grand in its heyday, but it is now overpriced for its mediocre offerings of accommodation and service. I say this even having regard to the fact that, being a few kilometres from Portofino, and it being the peak summer season, this area of Italy is generally very exclusive and thus expensive. Our stay a few days earlier at the Toscana Resort Castelfalfi was vastly better, both in terms of the standard of accommodation and service, and in value. The Grand Hotel Miramare could take a leaf out of their book. However, given the number of excellent reports on Tripadvisor, I doubt they will, because they probably dont actually need to try any harder.

    • Beautiful hotel, great location

      We stayed at this opulent hotel for 3 nights, truely gorgeous and perfect location. The service is great and the grounds are breathtaking, everything is done with such great style. You have a choice of the pool or across the road at the beach the hotel have designated deck chairs which is what we opted for. The breakfast was plentiful with great choices and sitting on the beautiful terrace made it even more special. The only one thing I would fault is they do not have a iron, which I find annoying! so make sure you take one or you can use their laundry service at a fee.

    • Beautiful View,classic rooms

      We were upgraded upon arrival to a stunning view with huge balcony. The breakfast was typical extravagant breakfast served with kindness,efficiency & pride. It was easy to get to Portofino on a local bus which stops a short walk from the hotel. The main terrace with offerings of snacks with cocktails was a perfect place to enjoy the view.
