We stayed 2 nights here and the hotel is a gorgeous boutique style hotel. We were driving and although there is no parking at the hotel there is a car park near by which gives a special rate with the hotel of 14 euro per day. We had two rooms as our son was with us, both lovely. The laundry option was very good value ( 10 euro for a ten kilo bag, washed and folded) and we took full advantage of this. The breakfast was lovely, plentiful and the coffee very good. The service and recommendations from the hotel were excellent. An easy walk into the old centre of the town also. Very nice bar and restaurants available just around the corner also.

We had a good 3 night stay at Altair, and appreciated very good staff and service. The hotel is modern, clean and lovely, though our rooms were quite small. Windows open and in July at least the street was not very noisy. The hotel has air conditioning, but it's an odd system by American standards...if a window somewhere is open, the system draws that air in and makes the a/c less cold. We didn't understand this until we spent a hot night in our room. The staff was upset to hear this, as they are on duty 24 hours and we should have called them for help! The issue was resolved easily, had we only known ! The hotel was very responsive and we learned something. They offered us a free breakfast (lovely) and I'd recommend including this in your room booking. The other hotel owned by this group is across the street and has a lovely courtyard/ cafe but no a/c.

When our taxi pulled up at the front of the hotel I thought 'Ohh, what have we done'. But once inside, the hotel is excellent. Great breakfast, room small but had everything we needed. Clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and very helpful. Easy walk into the town centre. Laundromat also close, always a good find when you have been travelling for a number of weeks. I would recommend Hotel Altair as an ideal place to stay.

Location is excellent, just outside the city centre so it is less crowded. The receptionists were very helpful and really spent time to mark points of interest in Santiago and recommend cafes and restaurants. The room was beautifully decorated, the stone wall fitting with the ancient city. And the small balcony is a nice touch. I like that there is an extra hallway door separating our room from the staircase to give more soundproofing. Downstairs, the big lobby is also nicely decorated and comfortable. It was a close to perfect stay. Unfortunately, the AC stopped working after midnight. The pillows on the bed were also hard and very uncomfortable. Luckily, I found the softer spare pillow in the cabinet, but this was in the middle of the night, not sure why they didn't leave this on the bed like most other hotels who give you pillow options. The towels were also very thin, and no longer very absorbent. Just a few negative things, but they could be easily addressed by this beautiful hotel.

We only had the chance to stay one night, but we really liked this hotel. The location is ideal in that it is slightly outside of the hustle and bustle which means it is quiet. The walk into the historic part of town was maybe 10 minutes and very enjoyable through the narrow streets. The reception was helpful and pleasant and our room was very nice. It had it's own private courtyard with two doors leading outside to this enclosure. Bed was a bit hard for my liking but after a full day of wandering the streets, I had a good nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning is right off the lobby and although we didn't speak very much spanish and our server had about the same amount of words in english, we all got what we wanted with plenty of smiles for everyone. I would recommend this hotel for it's value, location and wonderful rooms.
