Stayed three nights here. Stayed in one bedroom apartment on the front of the building with water view. Very large balcony with nice outdoor furniture. The bathroom has been refurbished with excellent shower and very spacious vanity unit. Very convenient to have washing machine also in bathroom. Comfortable king size bed and pillows. Small compact kitchen but no dishwasher, although there is space for one.

Recently spent the weekend in the Bay and stayed at Nelson Towers Motel. The room was clean and basic, which is exactly as expected and shown in the pictures. The bathroom was clean and the towels provided good. Fridge in the room worked well and chilled everything to perfection for me (I enjoy icy cold drinks so turned the fridge up). The owners were very welcoming when we arrived on the Saturday and chatty when we checked out on the Sunday. We asked if we could leave the car in the parking area of the motel while we went for brunch and a walk around, and the owners were very happy to allow this. Overall, the motel is greatly positioned, clean and basic. Would definitely stay there again.

Warning: this is going to be long and negative. I travel a bit. Sometimes I write reviews. Usually good ones as my attitude is: if I have nothing good to say I rather stay silent. Not this time. Nelson Bay Towers is a large hotel overlooking the Ocean. Fantastic location, ageing building from the 80s era. I have booked a standard room online two days ago. One night only, short notice, therefore not refundable. I have moved to this little town from Sydney recently and I actually live next door to another resort. I was informed that today, the trees overlooking my garden and many others were going to be trimmed. I knew what it meant: a small army of men with Chain Saws moving in about 7 am and doing the chopping until about 3 pm. Too much noise to endure for hours, therefore I booked a cheap room overnight. I actually went there yesterday to talk to the owner (an elderly man who was dozing off when I walked in). I explained my reasons and requested late check out. He said that their policy is to charge me $30 if I stay until 4 pm. He has also informed me that are only four other people staying at the complex now, as it is winter and off-season. I had to agree as I have paid already for the room. I have mentioned my frequent travels: I visit Japan every year and flights from OZ usually arrive early in the morning. Their Hotel check in is 3 pm. I am always tired, and ask for a room to have a shower and a nap before my proper one is ready. I ALWAYS OFFER TO PAY for the kindness and my money is never accepted. I am accommodated and those places are busy. Not so in the sticks, Australia. I checked in late afternoon last night and having been told that the place was absolutely empty, I asked if they could not charge me that extra $30. No. This is the way we operate was the answer of the Lady Owner. The room was spacious, had a large balcony where I could smoke (bonus) and a view of the roof next door. Cool, it was the cheap room. Bed was comfortable, but the pillows were so thin and warned out they must have been since the last century. So were the chairs. There were stains on the extra blanket. There was almost no toilet paper left on the roll and the tap in the bathroom leaked. I woke up this morning and at 10.30 am and the power tools went off above my head. Drills and other things. I have made it clear that the reason I was there was to escape power tools noise pollution. I spoke to both owners and the man said that he did not know anything about it and the woman said that: it just has to be done. I got angry: they could have warned me a night before instead of charging me extra. I was having lunch with a friend at 1pm, so asked them to stop the noise until then, and they did. Thank you. Friend and I dined at the Marina across the road, then we returned and were finishing our bottle of wine at the at the roof top garden, that consisted of 3 bare plastic tables, no plants and pool closed for renovation. At 3 pm, the Lady owner arrived and told us to leave. I said: I have paid up to 4 pm. (It was written in front of me!). She said: No, it is 3 pm. We have to make up your room. Therefore, we left. No smiles when I returned my key. In Singapore they promote Staycations; leave your home for weekend and book in to some local hotel and be pampered. Do not try it in Australia. It was rather an unpleasant experience. I do not recommend this place.

What a great place to stay . There were 4 of us & we had a 1 bedroom apartment with a king bed , a sofa & a roll out bed. We stayed 2 nights & it was perfect. The best location overlooking the Marina . You could walk to everything . Had a very large balcony with fabulous outdoor furniture. Also a washing machine & dryer. The best part though were the owners/managers , John , Bev & Steve. The best hosts we could of ever wanted , nothing was too much trouble & so many laughs.
