    • Not a 5 star

      Reviewed 02 October 2019

Debated between giving hotel average or very good but because it is advertised as a 5 star then I have to go with average. Hotel is more an average 4 star. Check in was ok, didn't blow us away with friendliness. Room was clean. Breakfast was well stocked and everything was replenished well but you have to order eggs and this was a disaster. The 1st morning they never arrived and the 2nd morning they arrived cold. However, there was a young man we noticed in the restaurant who constantly cleaned tables and reset them and this meant everyone always had a table. Well done him! We used the pool area but it needed some loving care, with just some random sunbeds on the grass. Hotel in good location with a nice 10 min walk to the old town. We loved the old part of Santiago well worth a visit.

A nice NH Collection hotel, great staff! Room was very spacious and quiet. A 10 minute up hill walk into the old town. We thought it was in the old Tuen but its just outside. Breakfast was very good!

This is a modern property with good rooms and a convenient location to the centre of town. This is the good news. There are serious language and cultural issues regarding service that are simply incompatible with the claimed 5 star status. Breakfast is ok with welcome attempts to present local products. However waiter service for coffee entails too long a wait. Same thing for eggs. The base scrambled eggs are the default choice because of this. Reception staff speak English but other fronting staff like bar tenders, waiters and maintenance only appear to speak galician, let alone castillano spanish or English. This is bad news. Group dinner was very very ordinary. The general impression is that this place caters to local visitors. Foreign guests do not feel welcome.

    • A very modern hotel in a quiet location near the university but lacking any soul

      Reviewed 16 September 2019

We stayed a couple of nights at the end of a Douro cruise and have no serious criticisms, although we did not use the swimming pool so cannot comment on that facility. The public areas are pretty vast and lacking any character but the room was fine overlooking the main entrance to the hotel. It was very quiet and the air con hummed without being at all intrusive, We ate in the main restaurant first night but although the food was good i would not recommend it if you want dining atmosphere as there were not many guests eating. The bar area got very busy early evening and staff were rushed off their feet, so not a good place for a bar snack. Best to walk 15 minutes into the old town where there are lots of decent restaurants and tapas bars. For a 5 star hotel I am surprised that there is no turn down service at night when wet towels can be replaced etc. There is not a lot of storage space for clothes, which suggests that most guests only stay for short periods such as on a business trip. It is ideal for a stop over but if I was wanting to stay longer i would for a hotel with more character and heart

Very good hotel- about 12-15 minute walk to cathedral and city centre so very quiet around it. Bed was very comfortable, air conditioning worked well and staff very good. Overall would recommend if you dont mind not being in old town centre
