Fantastic architecture yet the rooms were a little run down. The history of the building was very interesting. Don't miss the tour every morning at 10:00 a.m. to learn about the history of this Unesco World Historical Site. Service was excellent! Would definitely return and stay at this property.

    • Lovely historic hotel but needs a refurb

Stayed a week on 6th floor great reception ambience rooms spacious but it is very dated limited draw space, curtain fell off in 5 mins fixed immediately but fell off again the next day. Internet very intermittent matched by the attitude of some of staff some great others very unhelpful. Rooms very musty as the windows couldnt by opened maid service very late average 4pm every day and and bit hit and miss - other peoples hair on the bathroom floor furnishings not dusted! Food in the restaurant hotel average and very expensive compared to just outside the hotel. Best value was by the pool. Generally needs a really good overhaul to bring it even close to 5 star status.

A very jumped up and overpriced hotel. Staff are extremely rude and unhelpful, rooms look like they are haunted, and everything overall very run down. I would highly recommend staying somewhere else if you want to enjoy your time in Havana.

    • Bad service and terrible "coffee"

      1.0

At the last day of our 2 week travel through cuba we thought it'd be a good idea to drink a coffee at the Hotel Nacional. When we asked if they are serving ice coffee they said yes and told us to get seated. After a few minutes we saw the waiter approach us with three glasses that looked like they were filled with ice tea. To our dismay those were actually our coffees. They were basically see-through and tasted like water with some food coloring. It was probably a ristretto which was diluted with water and ice. We asked three different waiters about 4 times if we could have some milk. They told us yes but the milk never came. Then one said that they did not have any milk and walked away. After we told her that her colleague offered us milk coffee and that they obviously would need to have some milk for that she said she would look. After waiting for roughly 20 minutes they finally brought us a cup. But whatever was in there was definitely not milk. It had a white brownish color and tasted rank. One of us decided to put some of the milk in his "coffee" water and it just got worse. The milk separated itself from the water and it began to flake. The coffee was even more unenjoyable than before. Adding to our bad experience with this coffee (in a land that actually serves good coffee) we were disappointed by the service. We are three young students but we felt like we were treated as if they regarded us as peasants. In addition those three coffees cost us about the same as our lunch. Do yourself a favor and never drink a coffee here!

    • An old-style hotel still with a lush feel - good when compared to much nearby

This old hotel offers a luxurious stay without losing too much character. It's incredibly busy and full of tourists like me here to spoil it! The breakfast was indeed fun and varied. And though staff were busy most of the time we got the help we needed. TIP: There's a daily guided tour which takes you to areas and special rooms. I'd recommend that over attractions outside.
