Stayed here for 2 nights, not stayed here for a couple of years, when I booked I thought I was getting a sea view room at the front, however we has a large very dated room at the back, it was very dusty and the the bath and sink was dusty also we did mention this but it did not get cleaned, I have stayed here a couple of times with the old owners, but I must say the standards have dropped, and I do agree with one of the last comments they new owners are still taking credit for the old owners standards, the general cleanliness is poor every where is dusty and unhoovered, the one good thing is the breakfast was very nice! But I think this will be our last stay at this hotel.

Booked this hotel based on reviews and wasnt disappointed. Stayed in a few big Blackpool hotels and have found rooms small and tired so really wanted to give an independent a try. The North Ocean hotel had a lovely clean spacious room with excellent sea view, we upgraded to top room and it was still ridiculously good value. Only one thing would have improved it for us, somewhere to hang clothes, we had clothing that needed hanging rather than being folded in a drawer. Breakfast was excellent, freshly made to order with lots on the side and unlimited coffee and tea. All the staff friendly and helpful.

    • AVOID!! Rotten Room, Even Moreso Rotten Manager!

      Reviewed 01 September 2019

This is going to be a lengthy review, but it is all worth reading if you want a GOOD time in Blackpool (and I know the manager seems to hate lengthy reviews so here you go!) Me and my boyfriend had booked a double bed room at the North Ocean based in all the positive reviews left for the PAST owners of this hotel. We had booked a month or so in advance, and were only staying for two nights, so there shouldn't be any issues with our hotel, right? Wrong! On arrival, we got shown a room with bunkbeds, and we quickly came out and explained we booked a double bed room. The receptionist was an elderly lady, and usually, despite where faults lie, it's usually polite to just say sorry for the confusion. Instead, we were immediately told to "blame Agoda" and she rang the manager. I fully believe the manager did not know he was on speaker phone, as he was sounding quite snappy, and when he spoke to us over the phone, again, no apologies, just "BLAME AGODA NOT US!!!!". I found this an immediate red flag. I work in a hotel myself, and I assure you, our manager would not be very proud with such an arrogant display and no sense of sympathy. We got shown up to Room 32, a cramped room that was on the top of the stairs (which btw, no lifts and all rooms are upstairs so there is no wheelchair access). This room was... the worst room I have ever seen. The images of this room online were EVERYTHING this room was not (clearly they just threw a double bed in a room that couldn't even fit a single!). There was no explanation, and again, no apologies for the mess around. The room had no locks on the bathroom, and you could not even SHUT the bathroom door even! My boyfriend and I were constantly tripping over each other aswell, as there was no room for my suitcase and his rucksack on the same floor! The radiator had no ways of plugging in and was more an ornament than a working machine. The manager told us 32 was a "sea view", but the only VIEW I could SEE was trash bins and roofs. As a woman, it was appalling there was not even a closed bin for sanitary products (but by the state of the room and the hotel in general, cleanliness was not a priority). Considering the horrific display of apathy and lack of apologies, we both knew we would have no refund, so we stuck out this room. We did however avoid breakfast like the plague to block the fact we were staying in this place from our minds. The next morning, I had found the shower didn't WORK?? I immediately went downstairs (and despite my review, in person I am quite quiet and patient - so by my making of this review you can see this place struck a fine nerve). I was met with the manager himself, and I explained. Instead of an APOLOGY (which I came to realise "sorry" was not in their vocabulary at this point), he blamed his own STAFF, the elderly lady at reception, and said "well SHE should have told you about the shower at check-in" (despite him... being on call the whole time??). He assured me the shower would work after 5mins of it being turned on (took 10mins). Once it came on, it was barely a shower, it was probably only using 3 of the possible probable 50 holes in the showerhead, and it was mere droplets. My boyfriend and I refused to be late out so we bathed with cups and tap water, and rushed out. Upon rushing out of the hotel to go to the Pleasure Beach, the manager stopped us to check if the shower was alright (but in his tone it was more "see, wasn't I RIGHT??). When I turned round and said (or began to say) "yes it did turn on however it was barely tricklin--" before he rudely interrupted with "well thats the water pressure and that is NOT OUR FAULT!!". His pure childish rudeness definitely spoilt every moment I was in his "hotel". In the morning when we left, nobody really came to see us leave or even say goodbye. Despite us showing up at reception at check-out, we had to wait 5 minutes to catch the eye of a waiter to take our keys so we could even leave. The grossest thing about this hotel however, is at checkout, we had to see behind the desk ALLLL the awards the old owners accomplished that the new owners strung up - it felt like they were not even bothered about their job, they just wanted to earn from the hard work of others who had long since gone. PLEASE avoid at ALL cost. The way the manager spoke to his customers and about his staff was just as disgusting as the rooms he was over-charging for. I never expected luxury (I myself prefer simpler hotels in fact), but I did at LEAST expect common courtesy, which this manager surely lacks. If I could give this hotel 0 stars, I most certainly would.

My partner and I booked this hotel on a wim and we were not disappointed. Our sea view room was lovely, everything we needed was in the room and the man at reception who checked us in was very chatty and accommodating. The breakfast was very nice, and again the service was great. We got this at an amazing price and definitely want to return next year, hopefully for a longer stay.
