He was so attentive, knowledgeable and 100% focused on customer service - almost like a valet/concierge! The rest of the stay was very disappointing: - potential code violations (no fan in WC, minimal clearance btwn bed frame & wall, no screen on 3rd story window - Interior design lacked any soul or depth- generic "LA wanna be chic" - TV was massive- couldn't swivel w/o hitting the wall, four poster bed pole blocking it - ONE double bedded room in entire hotel with view of a wall - No nespresso, coffee makers in room - had to take internal staircase to 3rd floor due to construction - Broken entry fountain, floor being polished upon arrival, signs falling off the walls while trying to relax at the pool - INSANELY overpriced - parking $50 per night - Front desk had 0 hospitality service & could hardly check us in or out - had to wait in line while 2 employees stood there & watched he fumble - i predict this joke of a hotel will close its doors within a year.

I had a weekend getaway with my boyfriend to this perfect beach hotel! The renovations are impeccable and the service is top notch. It was very quiet and relaxing in the hotel and it almost felt like you were someplace else. Our room had beautiful decor, all blues and whites, with great artwork to match. The bed was very comfortable, it was like sleeping on a cloud. The Frette linens and towels felt very luxurious and they also have very comfortable robes (always one of my favorite things). When we walked outside of our room, it overlooked the beautiful pool. The lounge chairs were extremely comfortable and I could have sat in them for hours. They also provided SunBum sunscreen, which was a nice added bonus! From check-in to check-out the service could not be beat. Freddie, who was there in the evenings would always strike conversation with us and was very attentive and nice. The prosciutto and burrata were a daily order for me and my boyfriend loved the steak! I would highly, highly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in the Lanai Suite, which was nicer than any apartment I've ever had (more spacious too). The hotel is beautiful with a fantastic pool and outdoor space. I couldn't get enough of it but did leave a few times when it was overrun with kids (but that's MY issue. Kids are kids). The food was so good and they serve THE BEST tomatoes I've ever had in my life! I ate as many as I could. Balde, a terrific food and bev manager, who always seemed to be nearby when I needed something, told me their produce is from the local farmer's market. It shows! Another big standout was Frankie, a delightful server. He was more like an old friend than someone taking your order. He went out of his way to accommodate a special request and had us laughing the whole time. Overall: a wonderful hotel!

Ok, someone who designed this place was trying to actually make a special hotel experience -- something elegant, unique, and not over the top that heralds a location's class and style. This hotel is it. First, I'm ridiculous when it comes researching hotels. I likely spend 15-20hrs for even a 2-3 night stay! Blame the internet -- too many options and information. The Oceana might not be high on your list since it's a redesign and tripadvsior and ranking engines have it lower due to a low numbers of reviews. That being said -- you are in for a treat in this place. The rooms are designed having every detail in place -- from an actual library, to huge HD tvs, to comfortable beds, to high end toiletries. It's nice to step into a place where design was so intricately thought out. Seriously you have to see it to believe it. Next, the whole open courtyard thing evokes a calmness and community to the location that also benefits from not being a massive mega-resort. The staff has that Ritz level style of ability to make customer service seem sincere, fresh, and genuine. Conversations (about LA, the weather, things to do, dining) were actually sort of substantive instead of obsequious and bland! Will single out Whitney who when I inquired about some pool toys for my 4-yr old said that the hotel was working on having some stored, but went to her car and got the ones she uses for her kids! -- That's service. The food was varied and thoughtful -- and had good vegetarian options. Getting from hotel to Pacific Ocean water takes about 2-3 minutes via crossing Ocean Avenue and having a pedestrian walkway help you descend to the shore. You can see the water from the restaurant and some of the suites. But, really, despite the stunning beauty of Santa Monica -- it was almost just as nice to sit on the swing/chair outside the rooms and see the courtyard/pool. The choices near Santa Monica beach can be varied -- but comb through tripadvisor and you'll see high cost for small rooms, iffy service, or a poor beach access (won't name the offenders but you can figure it out). Some concern is that a place this stylish won't tolerate kids -- but my girls aged 4/9 were absolutely accommodated and felt welcome. There was one relatively well known actress/comedianne who was staying there and brought her kids and they were having fun in the pool -- think it's salt water (eyes were not that irritated and goes from like a 4ft shallow end to 8ft deep end). It's a short walk to the 3rd street promenade and tons of restaurants too. It was actually pretty affordable and well worth the cost we paid (about $650 after taxes per night for a family lanai suite) when you think about what you get at the leading tripadvisor hotels (which Oceana will be as they get higher numbers of reviews) for the same cost (smaller rooms despite paying suite/premium room rates). Simply put, I didn't think you could experience a hotel like this anymore amidst all the corporate mergers/penny pinching/design blandness/uniformity of many places. It can be relatively expensive but here's the thing -- and they do offer special rates/discounted rates -- but it's one of the places where you almost won't feel about spending it -- on either the room or the food because you can tell from design/service/location whoever put this place together is caring about a experience. Even the way valets greet you and seem to care about how your day was and like doing their employment, the way the wait staff tries to accommodate needs in the restaurant -- you're just impressed. The gym is like a 5-star level for the quality of the equipment they got. You can go gilded age over the top indulgence in LA -- that's what a city of its size/importance/wealth can offer, but there is something to be said for experiencing the height of its style amidst a casual and genuine friendliness that the Oceana creates. Ok, you can tell I liked this place but I really wanted to do a longer take given it's newness and the way its managed and the staff's high level of excellence. It's going to get even better as they get a rooftop bar that has ocean views (opening soon). It's a real gem in Santa Monica.

As a local, my kids and I had a 3 night staycation. This is as close to the "dream" Santa Monica lifestyle as I could imagine. Great pool, great restaurant, the most beautiful gym and a fantastic crowd. Beautiful suites and lobby.
