    • A civilized jungle beach escape: worth it, but be prepared

      4.0
      Reviewed 20 August 2019

Phi Phi Relax is on its own coral ringed beach in a conservation area of Ko Phi Phi. This is a big part of the experience but also means their restaurant is your only choice unless you bring food, and you are wholly dependent on the boat shuttle service schedule. The boat is not included in your hotel rate and will add to your travel time and budget. Plan ahead! We travelled in slow season and so the number and times of boats were very limited. This hotel is best for a stay longer than 2 days. We chose the tree view room. The room itself was sparse, a classic mosquito net over bed, fan, shower over toilet affair. It was very hot and we ended up putting the fan in our mosquito net to remedy the situation. The patio mats were a lovely way to destress. Warning: The suggestion that you need to be comfortable with stairs is an understatement. The stairs are cement and stone, hand built, and narrow, twisting, steep, and shallow. If you are nimble and want to wake to monkeys and birds this is perfect. I danced up and down them skipping steps and balancing on my toes at times I enjoyed it, my fianc did not. The staff carries your bags so no worries there. That being said, if you are not nimble or fit, choosing this room means going up and down for meals, for the beach, for anything. If stairs are hard, this would take the relax right out of the resort. If this sounds like you, do not choose this option, go for beach front room at this resort instead. On the beach, the hammock and swing were nice, the view was lovely, the jungle was right there with all its sounds and textures. Swimming was warm and lovely. There is a lot of rock and coral to swim over to get to the water, just a heads up. This beach is shell and coral based, not soft white sand as some other beaches on Ko Phi Phi. The food in the restaurant was really good. This was my most delicious Pad Thai ever, surpassing any other Thai or Canadian dish Ive had. Warning: this restaurant is way more expensive than most Thai rates. This matters as Phi Phi Relax is isolated on its own beach. The staff at this hotel was an absolute delight! They took hospitable and turned it into full swing entertainment. When we arrived they were on the beach hoola hooping, when we left they laughed and told us we werent allowed to go. They raced up and down the steps with our bags, and were highly attentive in the restaurant. If you want to be isolated on a Thai beach with a feeling of wilderness and the perks of civilization, without going farther than Ko Phi Phi, try this resort for a few days.

    • Amazing setting but service lets this place down

The location of this resort is perfect if you are looking for a peaceful relaxing stay. The accommodation is a stones throw from the beach, and considering how remote it is in the jungle is comfortable. However the staff here, restaurant staff in particular were very rude. We felt uncomfortable when being served - no smiles / thank you , and it felt like they didnt want you there. This lets it down but we are still glad we started here.

    • Excelent relax place but too much to improve

Phi Phi Relax beach resort is an excellent place to disconnect and forget all your stressful daily routine with friendly staff. The Bungalows are cute and the beach is beautiful but: 1) Inside bungalows is warm 2) If you pay with credit card a 3% is added to invoice 3) Rabbits could smile you at night when you go to bathroom 4) The resort is thought to stay there, consume there and do all there.

    • Peaceful escape with fantastic views

We stayed here for three nights on arrival in Thailand (via Phuket). Our hut was great, The terrace looked out over the bay and was surrounded by wildlife (great bats in the evening). It was basic but clean, mosquito nets over beds, basic cold water shower, fan etc. The food at tthe restaurant was good (apart from appetizers) nice curries, soups, rice dishes freshly made. A bit more expensive than in town but that seems consistent with out other stays. Staff were efficient and the owner friendly. We were there at full moon so the tides were low so sea shoes needed to get in at low tide, The reef offshore has some great snorkelling. The only access is by long boat and as there were three of us, this did mean 900 baht everytime we went out. Apparently zou can walk to Tonsai over a trail. We will probably return.

We will always come back to this bit-of-Paradise-on-Earth! We love the friendly and family-like staff, great food and charming huts on the beach! The place is beautyful and offers a perfect opportunity to do absolutely nothing!
