    • Loved Our Stay Here!

This Eco beach-front lodge is simply tanquil on a long stretch of gorgeous beach. The accommodation is made up of spacious beach huts, friendly hosts, food is ok, no outsiders just popping in so stays quite and is only a 5 min bike ride to the main street on Palomino or a lovely 25 min walk along the beach, which was great to explore and much busier. So really you get the best of both worlds depending on your mood. As a couple, love it.

This hotel was the perfect decision to rest in family and for our fortune, the destination we reward with full moon and red moon eclipse at the time. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. We rest, enjoy the beach and enjoy the eclipse of the moon until dawn. I loved the concept. Surrounded by nature, silent, without electric power. The torches in the night create a unique atmosphere.

We absolutely loved our time at El Matuy. The idea of shutting off for a few days was what drew us to the place and it did not disappoint. It is such a calm and beautiful spot where the only sounds you hear are the crashing of waves, the singing of birds, and the occasional coconut falling to the ground. It is perfectly located - within easy reach of Palomino town and a short walk from the mouth of the San Salvador river, which is just so beautiful (if you go early enough you can see the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in the distance). The cabins are lovely - very stylishly kitted out and very spacious. The meals are excellent - especially breakfast, which is timed so that you can eat on the sea front, watching the pelicans skim the waves as they hunt for fish. Having no electricity was wonderful, and we really got to know what moonlight feels like. Its magical. The staff are amazing. Barbara and her husband and the rest of the team went out of their way at every opportunity to make sure we had the best time. I only wish wed stayed longer!

Loved the place. We had the whole beach to ourselves. There is no light but you don't need it. Went there with my girlfriend and we had the time of our lives. Staff is good. Maybe they need to check you out more often and ask what do you need but that's all.

    • Paradise....Perfect place to unwind & reconnect with nature, self, friends & family.

El Matuy truly is PARADISE!! Stayed here for several nights in June with my 5 year old and left feeling invigorated and relaxed (which is saying a lot, since I was traveling with an energetic 5 year old). This is the perfect place to unplug and unwind, thanks to sounds of the ocean and candle-light powered cabanas (electricity available at front desk). The cabanass are large and comfortable with a beautiful outdoor shower that has you feeling as though you are showering under an waterfall with the sounds of the native birds directly above you. The beds are super comfy, as are the hammocks. What made the place even more special was the hospitality and kindness of the staff. They are happy to assist in every way and arranged our entire trip to go tubing down the Palomino River (highly recommended), and arranged a beach massage for me. The wonderful women preparing our delicious meals went out of their way to cater even to the picky palate of my 5-year old and treat him to delicious desserts. It was such a treat to enjoy traditional meals of the region like Arepa de Huevo (which I still dream about) and fresh fruits and seafood. Palomino itself is a magical place and absolutely worth exploring the mountains, rivers, beaches and all the natural splendor. I was amazed by the ecological diversity from the mountains down to the ocean. I am by no means a birder, but did some fun amateur birdspotting with my son on the beach and whilst tubing down the river. El Matuy is a great base for exploring all the wonders that Palomino (and the La Guajira district) has to offer, or just relaxing and staring out at the Caribbean sea! Great destination for retreats - I cant wait to go back!
