Quaint is how we would describe this rather old but nicely updated and comfortable hotel. Very clean, nice. We would consider the beds in our room to be 'average' in comfort. Not terrible but not plush either. Nice location, beautiful views.

For the price we were surprised how good this hotel was, we did pay a little extra to have a private bathroom & balcony, as some rooms have shared bathrooms, but the views from our room were great, breakfast is extra but we enjoyed the choice of food layed out. It is only 4 to 5 mins to some of the best things to see ,& do from the hotel. If arriving by car it is a tight ally up to the hotel, I scraped my car when trying to get out.

We stayed two nights in beautiful Cuenca@ Posada San Jose. It is not easy to reach but it is in the perfect location. Once you arrive, the views are unforgettable. You are in the center of the historic Cuenca. A step away from the Plaza Mayor. Our room had stunning views of the Parador, the bridge and the gorge. It was comfortable with all necessary amenities. There is paying parking garage nearby. The Posada gives you a voucher for a discount. Breakfast, while not memorable was adequate. We had a light dinner on the evening of our arrival. The soup was not as expected. Even when we had asked our waitress about it having some meat or vegetables, it was just clear broth. Watch out if you decide to order "cocido". Very disappointing. By the way, we speak fluent Spanish so it was not lost in translation. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. Posada San Jose has a wonderful ambiance. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and all the sights are nearby.

Having read reviews for many hotels in Cuenca old town I chose this hotel and I wasnt disappointed. The service was efficient and friendly, the superior room was spacious and we loved the little balcony with the views over the gorge towards the Parador. Breakfast was excellent and I loved the homemade cakes and biscuits. The location was perfect for exploring the old town.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this cosy establishment in Cuenca, nestling on the edge of the Huecar River gorge. The building dates back to 1621 and was a former college for the education of choir boys at the nearby cathedral. Our room (15) was traditional in dcor with dark wood beams and furniture, traditional floor tiles and whitewashed walls. The beds were comfortable, there was a separate lounge area and a delightful covered balcony with stunning views of the gorge below. The hotel is centrally located in the historic centre, just a short walk from the cathedral and other sights as well as eating places. The hotel has been owned since 1983 by Antonio and Jennifer Cortinas (who is from Canada originally)and has been beautifully maintained and preserved. We only saw the owners briefly - usually just as they were rushing off somewhere - and so weren't able to stop and chat to learn more about the history of the building from them. There is a very good restaurant in the building with a great view of the gorge. We ate there for two of our three nights and the food was excellent. Breakfast was varied and of a similar good quality. A great place to stay if you want a really atmospheric old building as your base.
