This is an OK place for a couple of days, although it looks as if it has seen better days. The room I had was a room within the main house inhabited by Claudia and VJ with its private bathroom. It is clean and well situated in the middle of the Gros Islet village. There is a very nice beach within 15 minutes walk too. Claudia and VJ are kind and attentive but the room is basic, hence the price, so I will not recommend it for more than a couple of nights. If you are going to stay for a couple of days make sure that one of them is a Friday night as it is the street party in the village which is interesting. Also, take cash to pay the room as they do not take cards and the nearest cash dispenser is about 15-20 minutes walk

Not your "run of the mill" vacation! This homey guest house is for those people looking for an authentically St. Lucian experience. P.J. and Claudia were incredible hosts- welcoming and, full of information about the Island, they were always making sure we were enjoying ourselves. The beach behind the property is beautiful and, we were often the only people there. Around the neiborhood, you will find all sorts of tiny stores offering local foods- we were never disappointed, everything is tasty and, very inexpensive! There are some real characters about town too- "Wireman" can make anything you like from a few bits of wire and, Drixy and Akeem have an outdoor store by the beach with loads of beautiful local carvings, jewelry, sea shells, etc. Walk, by road or by beach, to Pigeon Island where you will find a lovely beach, great food vendors and, the climb to the fort is well worth the effort- the views are stunning, particularly so at sunset. Easy access to other towns and attractions via bus or taxi, Gros Islet is the perfect location!

Out of 3 guesthomes I frequented in throughout the island, this was my favorite guesthouse stay in St Lucia. PJ (Phil) and Claudia said "Welcome Home" when I walked into the "Somewhere Special Guesthouse". It was definitely a family vibe. Some of my favorites times was sitting on their bench outside the house watching the sunset and talking to the locals whom they all knew and introduced me to. Essentially, I met the local butcher (Einstein), the local horsebreeder (Bano), the local creole restaurant owner of Flavors of the Grill (Oneil), and many more of their local friends. The room was bright and colorful and the bathroom was huge. There was a fan to keep the mosquitoes away while I was sleeping. I was also happy about having internet wifi, an eletrical adapter for charging my cell phone and computer, and access to making local calls. The best feature about "Somewhere Special Guesthouse" is that it is located right on the Gros Islet Beach. The next best thing is that the acclaimed Friday night street party jump up is right outside the door of the guesthouse. This street party is massive and fun. Ironically, by Saturday morning, the street is totally clean. I really love the access to walking along the beach to the historic Pigeon Island in 20 minutes. I was able to ride horses and do watersports locally and also enjoy great local creole food. I will miss the roosters, dogs, and cats walking the streets. The Irie Bar just around the corner owned by Andy is a cool spot to relax as well. Rodney Bay is very close by where you can shop and do a lot of partying and clubbing. There is so much more to say about Gros Islet and Somewhere Special Guesthouse. I cant wait to visit again soon.
