Good location to other attractions ,decent room great view from most rooms , Did not like the food much and unfortunatley you must buy the package. Had a good amount of water sports that were included and easy to get towels . Small but nice beach area with lots of chaise in sun or shade.Staff friendly and accomodating.

Excellent resort. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. plenty of food and beverage options. This was our second trip to this resort. We gifted it to our daughter for her honeymoon and she and her husband went with us this time. Great Island, great resort. They are closing next month for renovations so it will only get better.

    • Our Wedding at St. James Club

First off I noticed that there aren't a whole lot of reviews on Tripadvisor regarding weddings at the St. James Club which would have made my life easier when planning our big day so that is why I am going to write my own "Wedding Review" on our wedding experience, from the preparation, to the big day, what to expect, the good the bad etc. Let me say this If youve been to this resort and have an idea of what to expect then great, otherwise you really need to be laid back and just go with the flow with this resort, put your trust in them and not put too many expectations into your day. It will turn out beautiful I assure you. However there we found that there were some major flaws with this resort when it came to planning our wedding there. Hopefully the resort will see this as positive criticism rather than complaints. Out wedding turned out amazing, but the process to get there could have been made easier or more visual. Instead of writing a full review please read these observations & expectations so you know what is ahead of you when planning your day. 1. PLANNING YOUR DAY! So youve booked your trip at the resort for your wedding CONGRATUALTIONS! Whats next? . A lot of back and forth emails between you and the wedding coordinator. Best suggestion is to pick up a phone from time to time and actually call the resort. We often sent emails and often got vague responses and it got kind of frustrating after a while. One of your first emails will be from the wedding coordinator who will be sending you brochures in the form of PDF which tells you about the type of wedding packages the resort offers, the photography, reception venues & dinner prices etc. She then sends you a form to fill out asking you details about you, your family bridal party, the type of cake flavor, colour of flowers and boutonnieres, and if you want additional add ons to make your day. Once it is filled out and sent back to the resort the wedding coordinator will put together an invoice for your wedding and make you pay a deposit by credit card to hold your wedding reservations which you can pay for in full once you arrive at the resort. *Our issue was that no pictures of cakes or flowers were provided for us to look at so we could choose styles, etc. There were more flavors of cake available that werent on the form which we discovered once we got to the resort. This should have been added to the form even if the additional flavors were an additional cost. Also the wedding package stated that it only came with a cascading bouquet for the bride. I asked for a normal round and it was approved but this option should also be available on the form. In the end I ended up making my own fake floral bouquets and saved money.. Additionally when we asked for a receipt of payment for our $1000 deposit, we were just given a screen cap of a spread sheet with our desired wedding list with the cost and the words PAID $1000 beside. I would have preferred a proper receipt.* 2. CEREMONY VENUES You get one of two choices, both of which are very small. A) Hilltop Garden Gazebo (AMAZING) this is the most popular ceremony location. Its private and has the most incredible panoramic view of the ocean. It takes your breath way. The only downside is that the area is super small and the gazebo entrance is on an angle compared to where the guests sit. A little awkward but minor in comparison to the view. 50+ guests up there would be cramped. B) Beach Gazebo This is definitely not private by any stretch of the imagination. The walkway that leads to the gazebo entrance is right beside restaurants and the pool and there are beach chairs behind the gazebo. The resort may move the chairs for your ceremony, but it still wont stop Uncle Bob in his speedo two fisting a beer walking through the background of your ceremony photos and video and anyone could stand around watching your moment. 3. RECEPTION DINNER You are at an all-inclusive resort with free food and drinks, and you would think that your guests should get free food/drink at your wedding but this is not the case at this resort. Be prepared to rent out a space for your reception, and pay per plate per guest, decorations, entertainment such as Djs, Fire dancers etc. *We only had 15 guests at our wedding and didnt feel it was necessary to have a big reception. We decided to have dinner at Le Jardin and enjoy the nightly resort entertainment after. After getting permission from the guests to use their one Le Jardin reservation for the reception the resort was able to pull some strings to reserve so many seats in the restaurant. Do keep in mind that the resort doesnt know until closer to your wedding if the restaurant will even be open let alone be able to book a reservation for you. We just took a chance and lucked out. In the end it only cost us $500usd instead of $1000+* 4. MEETING WITH THE WEDDING COORDINATOR A day or so after your arrival you will meet with the wedding coordinator in the wedding building behind the tennis courts to discuss the final details of your day, & make your final wedding payment. The coordinator should also be making arrangements for you to go back to the wedding building to meet the St. Lucian Lawyer who will have you sign forms applying to get married in St. Lucia and to get a legal license to sign on your wedding day. Your application is processed the same day by the lawyer. 2 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: - You will need to hand over your passports to the wedding coordinator for a few days prior to meeting with the lawyer. Before meeting with you the lawyer makes sure you are legit to get married. You will get them back when you meet up with the lawyer at the resort. - This wedding license you are applying for is a legal document and once signed and stamped by the officiant on your wedding day bounding you to be married be aware that that document is only TEMPORARY until the official license is issued. You need to go into Castries and apply for your official license yourself before you leave on your vacation. The St. Lucian lawyer will NOT speak to your country on your behalf letting them know you have gotten married in a different country. If you go home to a different country you will still have to contact the lawyers office in Castries who will email you an official marriage license form which you Fedex back to them with cash. You will then wait two weeks for your official license which you will need in order to change your name in your own country etc. From Canada this cost me $100 + cost of the marriage license. 5. WEDDING REHERSALS What wedding rehearsal? The resort will do a wedding rehearsal if you ask, but we were told it really depends on their schedules at the resort, but not to worry about having one since there will be wedding coordinators at your ceremony walking everyone through it. We never had one and honestly felt that we didnt need it. Even the kids in our ceremony were well directed. PHOTOGRAPHY This photographer George was a super nice guy and did great work HOWEVER LETS END IT THERE!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you do the following - Make sure George is FULLY aware of when you are leaving on your vacation and that EVERY PHOTO that you choose is given to you. We were told for 3 days prior to our departure that the photos and videography were ready and that they would be given to us. We didnt get the photos until check out and half of them werent even there, and some of the photos in the book werent even the ones we chose and our vidography wasnt even ready. They ended up emailing our wedding video to us a month after we got home from our wedding which was so disappointing as many family and friends couldnt make the wedding and wanted to see it and we had to wait to show them. - Make sure EVERY PHOTO doesnt have crappy touch up jobs done. My husband and I had gray hair and gray skin in several photos. - You will probably meet with the photographer to see your wedding photos. If you dont purchase them all he will make you write down the jpg number so he can print it off later. Keep a copy of this paper so if he doesnt give you the correct picture you can reference it. 6. RESORT ENTERTAINMENT Be prepared to pay for entertainment. I can see why they have you rent a dJ, beach fire pits, or fire dancers. This resort is sooo lacking in terms of entertainment. There was one night where there was a DJ that came in, but other than that you will end up with a violinist or a saxophonist, karaoke night, or a local band that is just mediocre etc. and you arent told ahead of time what the entertainment will be. Your wedding entertainment may be a surprise. But a little tip Take a portable stereo and go into the little sitting area beside Le Jardin and have your own little wedding dance/party. You may have others join you but it makes for a fun night. This resort is fantastic in terms of location, size, the rooms are clean and super comfy and the food is alright. Id stay there again if I go back to St. Lucia. You are also a short drive into town for local shopping, and beaches. But when it comes to the weddings the St. James Club really need to be more organized, informative, get their photography issues sorted if it continues, and provide additional options for smaller parties who dont want to rent out spaces for their receptions. In the end its just about you and your new spouse and feeling blessed that you were surrounded by family and friends who came all that way for your big day. What more could you ask for?

I read alot of reviews prior to arriving at st James's club Morgan bay. I have no idea where any of these bad reviews have come from. Yes the rooms need a spruce up but nothing major, not like their in a horrible state. We stayed in a ocean view suite. Room was very clean and well kept. The whole resort was very well kept and gardens are beautiful and immaculately looked after. The staff from arrival to departure were outstanding. All the workers too, very polite and always had time to stop and chat and ask if we were having a good time and offered to help with anything. Literally nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The beach is beautiful and private, no random locals bothering you. Free watersports, just sign up and off you go. Pool areas and kids pools were great, always staff on hand to offer a drink etc. The beach party on Wednesday is great fun for everyone. Food is outstanding. Morgan's pier and bambou were our favourite and the bbq hut on the beach is great for lunch too. Met some great people on holiday too. Now onto the staff... I have never been to any resort in my life where everyone is extremely polite, helpful and considerate yet fun and bubbly, it really makes the resort what it is and these great people deserve the highest levels praise, they are all amazing. Bell guys are there in seconds, reception are very helpful, the lady at the dinner reservation desk (your name escapes me) but thanks for being so considerate, crystal on reception, very lovely and helpful. Very special thanks for making us all so happy and our kids in particular where they were so lovely has to go to Nikki (such a lovely lady and looked out for our daughter) fyi Jessica misses you already!, laurin, samantha, Maura and maurina, you made every day a pleasure and were also amazing with our children. Also JJ and the lads at the watersports hut, you're all a great bunch of guys, very helpful, fun and friendly and awesome with the kids too. You're all such beautiful people. A return visit to st Lucia, well, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. If I could give this a rating out of 10 it is definitely 11!

We had a wonderful stay at the St. James and I would definitely recommend. We were 4 adults and 3 kids travelling and would definitely return. The kids club, the fitness centre and the water sports were the highlights for us. The kids centre was really impressive, not only was the space very welcoming but it was also well staffed and they had a full on program available every single day. This was key to allowing us, adults, to have some ME time. The fitness centre was definitely one of the best I have experienced at a hotel with a large enough class schedule (although there is a little room for improvement when it comes to punctuality) and great amenities. The food was satisfactory as there were always healthy options and the breakfast smoothie bar was always a hit with the family. We were also pleased with the diversity of lunch and dinner options during our stay, especially for vegetarians and pescatarians. There is a little room for improvement when it comes to the quality of ingredients used in the baking and pastry items. The swimming pools were great, not overly crowded and adding a great deal to everyone's experience. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, allowing for relaxing and restful nights. The spa is okay but only marginally added to our experience. Overall a great place for a stress free family holiday.
