Such a pretty lush property in Colombo. Loved every bit about this lush green villa resort complete with infinite natural beauty, diverse varieties of cottages and rooms that reflected a healthy mix of modern and traditional. The rooms are all made differently but the most striking feature is the bathrooms attached to all. A private open jacuzzi area opening up from the bathroom to the green pastures is breathtaking. The views from this property are a plus point too. Theres a good area to walk around, explore and enjoy. The only problem I faced with plentiful mosquitoes which could be due to heavy rainfall at the time. The food was surprisingly delicious and very well done. I thoroughly relished the flavours. Tandoori Chicken with Veg Biryani Grilled Fish Lemon Butter Sauce with Beetroot mash were two dishes that stood out to me and very executed perfectly. The staff is super warm, hospitable and efficient. Full marks there. Overall its the perfect getaway spot, its in the lap of nature still yet its aces in deliverance of absolute luxury

Super secluded place with private Jacuzzi. So calm and refreshing. The food was good too and lots to eat. The room was so big and spacious and we had a great time during our stay there. Since there are a handful of rooms, the whole place was peaceful and relaxing. The staff were polite and helpful.

Its the perfect hideaway in the nature. Its located in a serene environment. Has only few rooms and the food prepared by the head chef is divine. They maintain a big garden and youd be able to see many varieties of birds in the hotel garden which is adjoining the river. We wanted to take a speed boat ride down the beautiful madu river and the hotel arranged its boat and the experienced boatman. It was a two hour excursion through green mangroves, cinnamon plantation and fish therapy spas. The rooms are colonial style and very spacious, comfortable and had an expresso machine as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we will definitely return.

I just came back from Sri Lanka after spending 9 nights at The River House with my husband and 10 year old son and I can honestly say it's been one of the most amazing holidays we've ever had. We've stayed in Kala Villa(garden villa), which was perfect, had a little pond with water lilies in a small private garden. The room itself is very large, very clean and has all the necessary amenities: minibar, AC, TV, hair drier, bathroom amenities etc. Upon our arrival they had already set the bed for our son although I had written to them only a few hours in advance. The main pool is located in the jungle which is incredible, you can see around you monkeys, all kinds of birds, small lizards etc. Although the hotel has 5 rooms, most if the time we seemed to be alone and very rarely saw other people at the pool. The river cruise they organize(the hotel is on Madu River) is very interesting and I highly recommend it. Still, what took our holiday from great to amazing were the people: Ruwan Pradeep(the Chef) and Shan(Hotel Manager), both went way beyond their duty to accommodate us: organized a cooking lesson for my son(who loves to cook) with fresh ingredients picked from the hotel's own garden, helped us safely pack the spices we had bought to bring home, cooked an amazing seafood dinner on our last night at the hotel and they did so many more I'm sorry I can't remember all of it. Also, Ashan who served us breakfast was very nice and actually sent the gardener to pick a coconut on one morning when my son wanted coconut water. They did everything to accommodate any request we might have had. I've been working in the travel industry for almost 20 years but I can honestly say I've never seen such a dedicated staff until now, we can't wait to go back there.

We arrived at River House in the dark after a particularly tiresome journey and our first impressions were not good. Our mood may have coloured our thoughts at the time but the house is down a long unlit rutted track and when it loomed out of the gloom seemed ancient, large and gloomy. It felt as it Dracula might have been brought up there. Under torchlight, we were led across a rocky bridge and down some steps to a lodge in the gardens which was to be our home for the next 5 nights. The doors and fittings are splendid in their ancientness - big double wooden doors with heavy brass fittings. The room was as tall as a hay barn. The bathroom had a similar feel to it and led through more heacy wooden doors to a led to
