    • Fantastic Resort for a family vacation

We had the most fantastic stay at the Grand Residences with our two kids (aged 5 and 8) in September 2019. The resort sits on a beautiful stretch of beach only 30 mins from Cancun airport and feels like it's in a secluded location. The resort was extremely well run, the pools and resort grounds were very well maintained and clean as the staff all do an outstanding job each day. A highlight for us was the food at the resort which we found to be high quality at both restaurants, the beach bar and room service. We stayed on an all-inclusive basis which I would recommend and ate room-service breakfast most days, lunch by the pool and dinner at one of the restaurants at night. The restaurants change theme most days which adds a lot of variety to the food however the shrimp tacos for lunch for a real highlight for me. Our kids absolutely loved the kids club, they have never been interested in spending time at kids club in other resorts however the staff at Grand were so engaging for our kids and had lots of different activities planned each day so they couldn't wait to go back. Special thanks to Nila and Theresa for their wonderful hospitality in the kids club and giving our children a fun experience to remember. The pool side staff and bar staff were also exceptional, our sun lounges were setup each day prior to our arrival at the pool and there service for food/drinks was always exceptional. Special thanks to Mario and Alexis for looking after us during our stay. The only other tip I would add is we stayed in a junior suite with 2 beds and found the room size was all we needed as most of our time was spent at the pool during the day, the master suites look good for larger groups or if you want to spend more time in your room.

    • Highlight of the Year

This was our second time at the resort and it once again did not disappoint. We did the all-inclusive package. The attention to detail, the accommodations, and the attentive staff is amazing. The motto here is "Your home away from home" - and they do everything possible to make sure you are happy and taken care of on a personal level. It starts with the car service (included with all-inclusive) at the airport - I nice rep takes your luggage to a clean, comfortable Suburban while giving you fresh cold water and a cold, scented towel to cool you down and clean off the gunk from travel. The driver knows your names and calls in your drink order to be ready when you arrive at the resort. The resort is small(ish) and low-key - so if you are looking for lots of people, or partying, probably not your place. But, relaxing and personal attention and care - 100%. The food is great (even for all-inclusive) good room service, delicious restaurants (3) and different themed cuisine nightly. The beach is clean, private, minimal and the water is warm. The waiters are quick and attentive, but not intrusive, and personal. After a few days, they understand your needs and are quick to cater to them. The highlight for us was the kids club - Teresa, Angie & Nila were a godsend. They played so well with our daughter, and she was excited each day to go see them (and they were excited to see her). For us, it was a much needed (and appreciated) break from a busy toddler, and very comforting to know that our daughter was safe, happy and cared for on an individual level. The schedule outlined themed activities daily, but if not enough kids attended, the staff changed it up and catered specifically to our daughter. They even held a small birthday party with cake and a piata for my daughter and another boy - the kids club itself made the trip worth it. My daughter cried the whole day that we left, having to say goodbye to her friends at the kids club. They asked us only once about becoming members or buying into ownership (timeshare pitch) a 20-second conversation, which we declined and they respectfully listened and never brought it up again. We will definitely be back (again) - the only complaint we had about the trip, was that we were not there long enough. Five stars, hands down/

My family has been to this property 3 times, the most recent in July, 2018 and we have experienced wonderful vacations there. However, our experience of this lovely resort has been tainted by the time share program that we joined through this property. We were pressured to attend a breakfast, which then turned into a 4+ hour presentation, to which we refused multiple buy in options due to our limited ability to travel outside of certain weeks of the year. Finally a vacation certificate was offered to us, which was essentially (as it was presented) a pre-payment of a visit to the same resort. Since we loved the Grand Residences and planned on returning, we purchased a certificate that was good for 18 months. Within 6 months, I came home and began trying to book travel. Every time I called to do so, I was met with obstacles. There was no availability for my week, the system was down, they couldn't validate my certificate, someone would need to call or email me (no one ever did), etc. This has gone on for TWELVE MONTHS. I have finally come to the conclusion that we were suckers for giving a dime of our money to this time share. Just as another reviewer posted, the property will have availability, but the people who have purchased into the program will be pushed to other, less populated weeks or given undesirable locations in the back of the property. Multiple times I was told there was zero availability even though I could have booked units myself online. My advice to others looking for a vacation is to book directly through the website and go and enjoy all of the wonderful things Grand Residences has to offer: amazing staff, beautiful accommodations, wonderful food. But STAY AWAY from any time share offerings or enticements. You will be treated second-rate at best, with money spent and no repercussions. It was an expensive lesson for our family and sadly, our last visit to the Grand Residences.

My family and I of five just returned from a weeks stay at the Grand Residence. We had such high expectations of this place and we all so very much looked forward to our stay. Upon arrival we were walked through the resort area to get to know the location of everything which was nice. We were then taken to our room which was as far away from the pool and beach area as you could possibly get, our room was up against the corner of the lobby building. One of my sisters traveling with me has a disability so therefore she cannot walk a long distance, so I asked the lady walking us to our room if we could have a room closer to the beach and pool area and she said no because your on a certificate you have to be back here. We never asked again to be moved. She did offer to get my sister a scooter to use which was a blessing because without that, being as far back as we were my sister would not have been able to make it to the beach everyday. We were offered the certificate because we had purchased ownership in the timeshare program with Royal Resorts. We didn't ask for it, it was offered to us for spending the money that we did with there company and to try out the Grand Residence to see if we would be interested in buying there as well. My brother in law was talking to a family at the pool area and they were a family of five also and had bought their timeshare at the same Royal Resort as we did and they were on a certificate as well and they were put in one of the penthouse suites. We would never even thought about something like that for us. We would have been happy if they kept us on the third floor but up by the pool area. They certainly had the room to do so. When we checked in they told us that the resort was not full at all and we would have plenty of room to move around and boy were they right. We have never stayed at a resort with so few people. We couldn't believe how few people there were. At the beach and pool there was only a hand full of people everyday. Not one time our whole week stay did we ever meet one person on or near the elevators. It was a weird feeling. But any way my point is when a company would rather have empty rooms near the beach and pool area than accommodate someone with a disability, that is a major turn off for me. I could understand if the resort was booked full or nearly full. So at that point I knew then that we would not be buying into a timeshare there. My husband and I love to travel and stay in timeshares, we also have timeshares with Marriott. We felt that we did not get the five star treatment here like the reviews that I read about before arriving. We did get the black suv at the airport upon arrival but for the return to the airport we had a rundown small van so not sure if we were supposed to have it on the return but at least we did get to the airport on time. Also the toilet paper was never restocked in our rooms, we had a two bedroom and I got up one morning and discovered that there was no extra toilet paper I knocked on my sister's bedroom door and she said they ran out overnight as well and had been using tissues. So I called and they did bring some right up. We have never stayed at a resort or even a hotel room that the toilet paper was not restocked. Also there was another unfortunate event that took place in our room however the management took care of it for us. And we had breakfast in our room every morning and no one from room service would come back and get the dishes, they would ask when they brought them as to when we would like for them to pick them up and we would say about an hour and a half but they would never come. One day the maid moved them all to the table in the foyer and when we left for seven o'clock dinner reservations they were still there but then gone when we got back later that night. There are two people however that deserve a five star and they are Rigoberto from our table waiter and Omar the guy that would set up our towels for us at the beach. Rigoberto was so great, he insisted every day that we would request him for our table. He was a lot of fun and was always a pleasure. Also our concierge Claudia did offer us a catamaran boat ride which was very nice. My husband and my brother in law are big tippers and they were sure to tip everyone very well. However I didn't like that the guy at the beach would chase us to the pool area everyday just to get us to sign the zero balance check. We always started out at the beach and ended up at the pool. Also our room had no view at all, we looked out over a non developed area that they say they are going to build on next year and a lap pool that no one ever used expect for one person that I saw. Part of what we go on vacation for is the view, my husband loves to relax on the balcony while either looking out over the pool or beach area but not this place. The villa is very nice but we don't spend much time in there. We left this place with such disappointment. I guess because of reading so many good reviews I thought it would be the same for us, but unfortunately it was just not for us. I'm glad for all the other happy people. We will stick with the Sands or the Haciendas when staying with the Royal Resorts.
