    • Disappointing After So Many Great Stays ..

      Reviewed 27 August 2019

We just had a 3 night stay at The Westin La Paloma. My husband is a Platinum with Marriott and we have stayed here several tens of times over the past twenty years. This was the most disappointing stay to date. To begin, our room faced over a parking lot and we could hear children running or jumping off the beds or ? throughout the stay all hours of when we were in the room. We had asked for an upgrade based on his status , were told no and didnt expect much due to it being U of As move in weekend , BUT we certainly didnt expect the worst room in the place. Not the hotels fault for wild children, but it gives an idea to the paper thin walls. The decor and room is in serious need of updating , as its been the same for as long as I can remember, and the carpets need a serious cleaning: as in, our feet turned almost black from walking on the carpet alone and I made each of my family take a cloth and wipe feet off prior to bed. Unbeknownst to me, my husband had reached out to the hotel the afternoon of our check in to have chocolate covered strawberries and a small floral arrangement to be in the room upon our arrival for our daughter for her welcome back to U of A. He later said, that no one responded , ( this was via the Bonvoy app. ) and he assumed maybe it would just happen. He said that had never happened to him before with small requests. He couldn't call from car as he was driving and he wanted there to be an element of surprise. They blew off his message completely. Later that night he decided to reach out again and to request dental floss . A bell hop was sent to room with two dental kits that contained toothbrush and single squeeze packs of Colgate. My husband asked this young man who seemed to want a tip and have a bit of an attitude, 'where is the floss I requested?' The kid said , ' I don't know if we even have that.' So my husband said ,' well sorry , this isn't what we wanted.' The half baked apology via the app for no response on the amenity stated the strawberries would be comp'd and arrive the next day. They did and they were basic. No florals like my husband requested . We do like the Contigo Restaurant here ; it's always busy and has great food , drinks and ambience. Azul is pretty blah with a bland menu. We have done Easter Brunch here as recent as last year and found it to be over priced and crowded in its set up. The Red Door Spa is amazing but pricey , as you may expect. The Country Club patio is a great place for sunset watching with a wine in hand. Each day we returned to our room to find it not to a high standard of clean one would expect at a resort such as this. The same rates are applicable this time of year at Loews and if you are a Marriott loyalist like us, The Ritz Carlton, however, further out. Our last night after we had our daughter moved in completely, we didn't extend here .. we moved to the Ritz Carlton for the same SAME rate !, where at least the room was clean; the safe worked ( we had to have ours repaired day one ) ; we had a bigger bed , ( this hotel has doubles , not queens ! Another update needed ) and just a better customer service experience overall.

    • Lovely and relaxing getaway

Recently returned from a 5 day stay at this resort. It was our first time to Tucson. I absolutely loved the property. The landscaping was stunning and the property was well maintained. The pools were great. Loved the mineral pool! There were always enough towels and lounging beds when we were at the pool. The staff were very friendly. We will be back! Loved the resort and loved Tucson!!

Got a great deal at this resort and as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". But had I paid more than what I did I would have given this place two stars at best. Let me start by saying status here does not matter. We were given a room on the first floor. Whatever you do, DO NOT stay on the first floor. This is where all the bugs go when it rains. Our room smelled like mold and the air conditioner sounded like an old truck. I woke up the first night to the sound of what I think was a mosquito flying by my ear. After I killed it, the others came for me. As a Gold I asked for a room upgrade but was told there was none available. Going to call BS on this. They were far from full this past weekend. Outside our room glasses remained in the hall for two days. Back to that status thing. Your Bonvoy status means absolutely nothing here. You might as well be staying at your first Bonvoy hotel. The pool was not packed but yet there were empty glasses all over. And by 3pm you got towels that had questionable marks on them. My wife refused to sit on one as it didn't look as if it was washed. Although they insisted it had. There are many good resorts in the Tucson area but this isn't one of them. If you get a good deal, say under $100 a night, then this might be worth it. Although I would say even the first floor is not worth that price. We will be back in October and just cancelled our stay here. We'll try something else and avoid the bug bites

    • Nice stay for a weekend getaway

      Reviewed 26 August 2019

My husband and I stayed at this resort for a weekend getaway. The resort was nice that caters to all ages including families with young children. Rooms were located in different buildings away from lobby area so you are escorted to your room by golf cart. You can walk as well, but if you have luggage its more convenient by golf cart. The room was clean with plenty of room. Bathroom had a shower plus a separate tub. We did notice little insects/bugs managed to come in even though we had the sliding door closed. There are restaurants on the premises, a lounge bar and a Starbucks in the lobby. Disappointed it closes early and not open most of the day. We did order room service one late night- personal pizza and the Caesar salad were quite tasty. The pool area was quite busy with families. Kind of hard to find loungers right away unless you wait to see if anyone is leaving. We were able to grab a couple of loungers by the adult pool. Friendly pool service, walking by periodically to check if we needed anything. Lovely resort and would recommend this place for a nice getaway.

I just want to give a shout out to Tracy Hill. She was the most pleasant, friendly, gracious and informative receptionist I have ever met. People Like Tracy are the number one reason I will come back to the Westin La Paloma on my next business trip to Tucson.
