We stayed at Hotel Fasano for 3 days in July 2019 and really enjoyed our stay! We were choosing between here and the Belmond and once arriving, definitely felt that we made the right decision as an early 30-something couple. Room - Nice and well appointed enough, but not particularly luxurious. I found peeling paint and worn interiors throughout the room. The bed was comfy and spacious. The bathroom was a great size and the shower was to die for! Pool - The view is truly stunning. STUNNING! Easily one of the most beautiful views of Ipanema Beach and the mountains that Rio has to offer. I loved being able to peer down to the beach and enjoy the sites of Rio (including Cristo) without leaving the hotel. I will note that the pool, while beautiful, is very sceney. Lots of women posing for Instagram. If you're going to put off by this, I might go elsewhere. Didn't bother us at all, but wanted to mention this. Service - Great! Everyone was happy to help us enjoy our stay in Rio and at the Fasano. Pool staff, wait staff, bar tenders - I can't say enough! Food - We booked via AMEX FHR, and in addition to receiving the early check in and late arrival, we also had breakfast each day included in our package. The buffet here is to die for! So tasty, so filing, with tons of options. The team here really goes above and beyond. We also dined at the on-site restaurant our first evening and really enjoyed that as well. We received help picking out a good wine and loved our appetizer (grilled prawns) and entrees (steak and seafood risotto). Overall, great stay in Rio! If we were to return, I definitely think we would stay here again.

The hotel's location in Rio de Janiero is great, which was a relief as the concierge offered to send an armoured car for our transfer from the airport (no kidding !). Great spot for Ipanema Beach, the Fort, the Sunday Hippy Market, restaurants and shopping, and walking distance to the lagoon and Copacabana. On the Sunday morning of our stay the roads along Ipanema and Copacabana beaches were closed to traffic, and we join a great crowd of runners and cyclists getting some exercise in the sun. The design aesthetic throughout is quite pleasing. The rooftop pool is lovely, though overrun with Instagrammers (ok - that's like the free entertainment) and aspiring high-rollers trying to get noticed. The gym was spectacularly well equipped, and the concierge team were helpful when I asked for advice on booking an excursion across the city. My wife and I were initially given a first floor room that had a nasty smell, a noisy AC unit, and bedsheets that were damp. Welcome to the Leading Hotels of the World (Not !). We spoke to 4 members of staff, who all confirmed the problem, yet still waited over an hour before being offered another room on the same floor, and a complimentary treatment in the spa (which we were were later charged for). Our sleep was disturbed by noise from the beach and the road outside during every night of our stay. It transpires (having spoken with one of the customer service managers) that all of the rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors are blighted in this way. I really object to paying as much as the Fasano charge, and not getting a decent night's sleep. There are so many members of staff working in this hotel, you might imagine it should make for great customer experience. But the staff in reception pass the buck; the maid wouldn't let us enter our room one afternoon (we went to the rooftop bar to wait till she released our room and our stuff); and the army of waiting staff around the rooftop bar and pool have a tendency to ignore mere mortals and focus their attention on wealthier customers. You can tip and tip again, you can pay the exorbitant additional charge for breakfast, and you can smile and pass the time with the many members of staff who will enquire about your day. But you may well find yourself paying five star money for a much poorer service.

    • Almost perfect

Like the tittle says almost perfect. Great location, great staff, extremely efficient, very attentive. The poolstaff predict what you want, they were amazing, couldn't fault them. Annoyed to arrive and upon checkin be told the pool area would be closed for a private event from 5pm, we overhear for a Brazilian actress. This is a communal area, not a private function room, it shouldn't be closed, it's THE feature of this hotel. And if it were to be closed they should email guests beforehand, they do have our email addresses, this is the 21st century. After a quick read of other tripadvisor reviews we see this is a reoccurring issue. But they do respond if you complain. So we complained and were give a free bottle of bubbly, roses and offers of massages. The point wasn't to get free stuff, although nice, the point was we wanted the pool area. And worse, if not available, why do we have to complain to get a compensation. You are a member of leading hotels of the world, that should mean something, not underhand tactics. Pool closed, great, email and automatically offer compensation. We were also annoyed we had to ring and request our bags be sent up after waiting 20 minutes. Hello we aren't sat in the room in stinky clothes from travelling with nothing to do to waste our holiday. The bags should have literally been in the lift after ours following us up. But the location, the breakfast, the atmosphere, the staff, the decorations everything, perfect. It's a shame the above were such niggles for us. Please fix it. Quit the events or change your attitude to them.

Although we had a bit of a rocky introduction to this hotel, its prime location and well-appointed rooms definitely made up for it. When we arrived to the Fasano we were incredibly groggy after an early morning flight from Foz d'Iguau, and to top that off my boyfriend had come down with some kind of illness, causing him to feel weak and nauseous. We just wanted to lay down in our room, however despite arriving after check-in time, it wasn't ready. Because of that, we were invited to wait in the rooftop bar area and to change into lighter clothing (it was scorching hot) uncomfortably in a small communal bathroom. The bar was very crowded, and would continue to be through the rest of our stay, meaning we didn't really have too many of the waiters attention. Needless to say, it took a long time to get drinks. On the bright side, the views from the rooftop bar are gorgeous. On one end you can see Ipanema beach and on the other Copacabana. The railings around the rooftop are all glass so they don't inhibit the view. The famous rooftop pool you've probably seen countless times on Instagram is right next to the bar and was super full, so we decided not to enter it. When our room was finally ready, we were delighted to find it to be very stylish with some cool design quirks. There are small squiggly mirrors all over the room, including right over our bed. The rest of the room was very sleek and modern made of dark wood. However, I really recommend you to get a room with a view of the beach. Our room was in the lowest room category and had a view of the building next door, which seemed to be a residential one, so you could see into people's apartments (kinda awkward). There was a little balcony but it was super small with no furniture on it, besides a lamp and potted plants, so we didn't spend any time on it. We were surprised by how dark and moody the hallways in this hotel were in contrast to the light and airy lobby. The dark wood theme continues in the hallways with cool furniture, like a large red-and-white striped chair made of balls, accenting them. After getting into the room, our stay got much better. The concierge recommended a great tour guide, Maiko, who showed us all the must-see spots in Rio and was very knowledgable. We also had breakfast at the hotel's buffet and it tasted amazing, definitely on the better side for buffets. The concierge also recommended a very tasty restaurant for dinner named Satyricon, which I highly recommend. Overall, we had a great stay, but keep in mind this hotel is very trendy so there will always be a lot of people around, especially on the rooftop, but also at nights in the ground floor's bar.
