    • Rudest person in the hospitality industry

      1.0
      Reviewed 08 August 2019

I unfortunately had the displeasure of speaking to someone at the Union Bank Inn and experienced the rudest hospitality industry worker I've ever dealt with. I work in the event industry and deal with many hospitality professionals and have never had an experience like this. Atleast at other hotels if they are clueless and can't figure out how to help you, they try and be polite about it. I had booked a room here and had to cancel it and then found out a family member had secretly covered the room cost as a surprise, so I wanted to speak with the hotel on rebooking and making this unique situation work. When I spoke to the Inn about making this work so we could still have the experience, the woman I spoke to talked down to me like I was a child, used industry jargon, literally laughed AT me for trying to clarify my predicament, interrupted me when I tried to speak, and flat out refused to work with me on solving the issue. After 5 minutes on the phone with this woman I had completely changed my mind about giving the Union Bank Inn any money and will not ever stay here nor support it in any capacity. I cannot believe this hotel has people like this working in a customer service capacity; I was not valued whatsoever as a guest and have never been made to feel like I was so bothersome. Perhaps the employees who work during the day are more polite but this person has ruined this hotel for me, a hotel I had always looked forward staying at. Please don't support a business with such horrible customer service practices and stay in another lovely establishment available in the downtown core of Edmonton.

Very nice hotel. The room was quite small but it was quaint. The wine and cheese service was nice every night. We were there for a couple weekend getaway. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The rooms are heritage or contemporary with very large windows to watch the downtown happenings. Very comfortable beds and lots of pillows. At no fault of the hotel, the only complaint I have is that the street dwellers become a little intimidating after 7 or 8 pm. We were walking back to the hotel, and some people were a little invasive. Otherwise, this hotel is fantastic.

    • Great place to stay but a little worry some out side.

First this is a great place to stay in terms of the hotel it self. Very helpful staff, great service. It was very nice they add a touch with wine and cheese every night. The room was great - clean but luxurious. The bath room was very large. The only negative is there is a nice park next door but at night there were lots of homeless people hanging around and one even made gestures that he was going to attack us. I think in the end he was kidding but he was very drunk so you never know. Also based on the people hanging out at the park I was a little worried about the contents of our car. The second night we brought up 4 sets of golf clubs that were in our trunk as we did not want to take the chance they would be stolen. Nothing happened but with the car left in an open parking lot behind the hotel and no security we were a little worried. So while this was a great place to stay I would not stay here again just because of our worry about the "neighbours" and the unattended, not secured parking.

I have stayed at the Union Bank multiple ties and am compelled to leave a review! I could only stay for one night of an intended two (they were sold out the second night), but the front desk team tried very hard to extend my stay for the second night. It's rare to find that level of care and it was not unnoticed! The rooms are wonderful, the complimentary breakfast is made-to-order and truly a difference-maker compared to other downtown hotels! The wine and cheese delivered to the room is a lovely touch and the hotel's location is central and convenient. This should be your first choice for any stay in downtown Edmonton.

I've stayed at the Union Bank Inn on business about 3 times and I've had great experiences each time. I especially love their heritage suites and appreciate the attention to detail they give each room. I've stayed in the luxurious Giverny suite (it is a so dreamy with the most beautiful bathroom). I'm going to make it a mission to try different suites to find my "perfect room". The staff are very attentive and helpful. The wine and cheese is a nice touch, especially after a long day. The location is central and the restaurant is both delicious and surprisingly well-priced. I'm a big fan of the al-la carte breakfast. Basically, I just love it here, and will stay here every time I'm in Edmonton.
