We stayed at the Villa Florentine in a junior suite for two nights after our river cruise ended in Lyon. It was a perfect cap to our journey. Absolutely a top notch property with very helpful service. Luxurious, but not at all stuffy. Concierge was very helpful with all requests. Our suite was quite large and comfortable. Nice big bathroom, separate toilet, plenty of closet space, nice terrace with table and umbrella. A bit of a splurge, but good value for the money given everything they offer.

    • Magnificent property and wonderful staff, but.........!!

They had booked a chauffeur and private car to pick us up at the airport........unfortunately they didn't confirm the previous day and so we were NOT greeted and helped with luggage and then had to join the queue for an ordinary taxi. NOT A GREAT START TO A LUXURY 5 STAR ? HOTEL being abandoned at the airport !! Magnificent hotel with fabulous views and well positioned. The room and public areas are beautiful. I had booked dinner on the Terrace overlooking Lyon on the night of our Golden Wedding Anniversary, only to be greeted by the maitre'd who refused us entrance onto the terrace as he had NO NOTE of our reservation !! He then said he'd have to check, thus indicating I was a liar.......to be publicly challenged in front of the other guests and staff is not what a 5 Star Michelin hotel should be striving for. My wife and I walked out of the Dining room and requested the General Manager attend our room immediately. 10 minutes later I had to phone reception only to be told the GM was not on duty !! Long story short, a delightful Manageress attended whom I showed the printed reservation to.......they soon made us a table on the terrace, which by the way was right beside where the smokers go between courses, the VERY SPECIAL NIGHT I HAD ORGANISED for our 50 years of marriage, was by now UTTERLY RUINED !! The Michelin dinner was to say the least, way below average. Beautifully presented, but really lacking in flavours and this wasn't sour grapes (no pun intended), it simply wasn't what you would expect and absolutely not up to scratch. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING !! Breakfasts on the terrace by the pool were delightful, other than the hundreds of sparrows who wanted to share with you but not pay !! (Must have been Scottish......only joking) Apart from the WC not having a wash hand basin within 2 rooms, ie through the bedroom and into the en-suite, the magnificent en-suite not having any hooks to hang your clothes, towels or bath robes, and so all you had was towel radiator rails which hadn't been cleaned as dust was piled up on top of the rails etc, everything else was lovely !!!! Don't get me wrong, we LOVED the place........but these things do not belong in a 5 Star establishment. In fairness they did not charge me for the dinner (which was significant), and they also deducted the cost of our last night (which was extremely significant), HOWEVER AS I SAID WITH GOOD GRACE AND GRATITUDE AT THE TIME, THEY COULD HAVE WRITTEN OFF MY WHOLE BILL, BUT IT COULDN'T HAVE MADE UP FOR A VERY SPECIAL GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TRIP, planned months in advance being UTTERLY AND TOTALLY RUINED !!!! YOU CAN NEVER BUY BACK THIS TYPE OF OCCASION Final note:- We would return, but our dinners would be elsewhere as Lyon is an area renowned for its Gastronomy, and there are hundreds of places to choose from and where we had fantastic meals all the other nights of our stay.

Really bad experience with the hygiene and accomodation of this hotel. More 3 star instead of 5 star hotel. They charge more than 500 euro for this room. Never accept room 23. Certanly not worth to be visited.

    • Honeymoon stay at villa Florentine worth the splurge!

We stayed at Villa Florentine for 2 nights towards the end of our honeymoon in France. Upon hearing it was our honeymoon, the concierge got us champagne and we enjoyed the lovely view off of the lobby while bags were brought to our room. Heres what we thought of our stay: Location: the location was great, just a walk down a large set of public stairs to the old part of Lyon, and walking distance to countless great places to eat and drink. Yes, the stairs are tough on the way back from town, but there is a funicular that you can take as well! Plus the view is worth it. Room: Huge room, especially compared to all others during our stay in France. The bathroom was great, equipped with a shower and double sinks. We had a small balcony off of our room as well. Two problems we ran into: (1) there was only 1 single outlet in the whole room, right next to the door. (2) the space was air conditioned but only barely cold enough to combat the extreme heat during our stay. Both are clearly due to the age of the building, and we found both not to be huge problems. In fact the front desk offered to bring us a power strip when we asked about the outlets. Amenities: We did not use the bar, and the restaurant was closed during our stay (Monday-Tuesday), but both looked lovely. The pool was definitely a treat with an unbeatable view. Service: This stood out as the best part of our stay! All staff were extremely welcoming and willing to give suggestions. All had excellent English and were very personable. When we first arrived they gave us a map and highlighted a walking route for us to follow to hit all of the major sites in Old Lyon. Gerald, one of the concierges, was especially helpful to us. He recommended and set up reservations for us at what became both of our favorite meals during the stay! Thanks Gerald!!
